Minutes of the Ad Hoc Airport Advisory Committee (rough draft for approval) 10/19/97 The Little River Airport Ad Hoc Airport Advisory Committee met on Sunday, 19 October 1997 from 4:00 - 5:00 pm in the Clubhouse at The Woods, 43300 Little River Airport Road, Little River. Four committee members were present: Trey Loy, Jack Reichel, Tim Scully, and Joel Bornstein. Dick Ahrens, Dave Brewer, Grant Wheeler, Lauren Jones and Richard Galligher also attended. We agreed that the next Ad Hoc meeting will take place Sunday, November 2 from 4-6pm at the Woods. Minutes ------- The minutes of the meeting before last were approved. We agreed that there were no minutes from the last meeting since so many people were absent. Reports on recent events ------------------------ Tim apologized for missing the last two meetings, explaining that his mother has been in various hospitals. He said that he finally was able to contact the Supervisors and DPW to find out their preferences for the scheduling of the GPS approach community meeting. Stan Townsend and Patti Campbell could attend on either November 16 or 23, but Charles Peterson can only come on November 23. After discussion, we agreed to hold the community meeting on November 23. Tim said that The Woods is not available on November 23! We discussed various alternate meeting places: - Little River Improvement Club - Van Damme park building - Whitesboro Grange Hall - Mendocino Community School - Mendocino High School - Mendocino Elementary School - Russian Gulch Park Building - Crown Hall After considerable discussion, Dave Brewer agreed to take on the job of locating a meeting place. We asked him to consider the following factors: - 75 people with overflow capacity to 100 - chairs - heat - centrally located - minimize cost Jack asked what is happening with the Airport Supervisor's contract. Joel said that Coast Flyers has bid on it. Tim said that he believes that the Board of Supervisors will pick a candidate on Tuesday. Someone said that DPW (the new Department of Transportation) may make a selection based more on qualifications than on cost. We discussed publicity for the GPS approach community meeting. After discussion, we agreed to try to get a series of articles into the Beacon. The first might just state the date, time and place of the meeting, but we hope to have the 2 page summary of the GPS report serialized in the paper. This might keep articles in for 3 weeks. Tim reviewed how 9 of the 10 initial copies of the long GPS report were used, leaving only one. He suggested that we should put copies in the libraries. Jack, Dave and Grant all said they would like to buy copies. Dave and Jack said they would be willing to have their copies be loaned to the Mendocino and Ft. Bragg libraries. We discussed the format of the meeting. Tim said that if 3 Supervisors are present, they will not be able to actively participate due to the Brown Act. He suggested that we run the meeting and that it be divided into 3 parts: - a brief presentation of the GPS report - a Q&A period - comments from the public We debated the order of these segments and decided, for now, to leave the comments last and to limit the Q&A to factual issues. We will limit comments to 3 minutes per person. Trey pointed out that this is the 2nd meeting on this topic and is mainly to get people's opinions on environmental impact. Tim said that we also need to present the factual data we have researched. Jack suggested making viewgraphs. Trey suggested publicizing that AAC positions are still open. Tim said he'd check with Charles Peterson and do so if Charles agrees they they are still open. Joel suggested that we ask both the Beacon and the Advocate News to publish information on the GPS approach. Tim will call Rudy after Dave has identified a meeting place. Grant bought a copy of the short report for $1. Joel gave Tim $20 for postage from Tom Wisdom. We agreed to meet next on November 2 at 4pm at The Woods.
