***************************************** * AIRPORT MEETING Sunday January 21 * ***************************************** Ad Hoc Airport Advisory Committee An Ad Hoc Airport Advisory Committee has been formed, consisting of a mixture of pilots and neighbors of Little River Airport. The committee's next meeting will be from 4pm-6pm on Sunday January 21 at Coast Flyers. We meet every other Sunday. Interested parties are welcome to attend these meetings. The agenda for this meeting is: - approve minutes of last meeting - reports on recent events - follow up on official committee, work on by-laws - altimeter setting issue. - timber harvest revenue - hangar issue and airport manager status - agree on agenda for the next meeting Although other topics may be discussed during the next meeting, these are the only topics we may take action on. The minutes of each meeting are circulated initially to the committee in draft form and are amended and approved at the next meeting. Thus the minutes of the 1/7/96 meeting won't be approved and published (by giving them to Andy at the airport) until after the 1/21/96 meeting. The committee is seeking an additional non-pilot member who is interested in working on airport issues. We are meeting every 2 weeks on Sunday from 4-6PM. Interested parties may send comments by mail to: Tim Scully Ad Hoc Airport Advisory Committee 501(c)(3) status ---------------- Pledges are still trickling in for the proposed 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation to support Little River Airport. Non-pilots may respond too. Seventeen people responded to a mailing that was sent to the entire airport mailing list of 125 people (including nonpilots). All 17 were pilots, seven of them were Mendocino County residents, and 3 of the 10 non-residents said that they own a second home in Mendocino County. Three of the responses were from hangar owners. Nine of the seventeen responses were from pilots with instrument ratings. Here's a brief summary of the hilights so far: type of instrument approach --------------------------- Pilots voted strongly in favor of getting a GPS approach, ranking all other types of instrument approach much lower. May pilots felt we should start with a simple non-precision GPS approach, eventually adding approach light and then a precision GPS approach as funding permits. priorities for airport improvements ----------------------------------- instrument approach ..................... .13 highest priority secure Runway Protection Zones .......... .26 install an AWOS-3 ....................... .34 card-lock fuel .......................... .43 increasing airport revenue -------------------------- allow construction of more private hangars ................... .28 (best) install card-lock fuel to increase fuel revenues ............. .36 develop non-aviation business on the airport which pay fees to the County ........................................... .39 develop an air-camping facility to increase tourisim ......... .42 One user responded to the survey with a letter stating that he was on the Healdsburg Airport Commission for several years and suggesting that the best way to balance the budget would be to eliminate the airport manager and install card-lock fuel. They did this at Healdsburg.
