Report on Recent Events 12/17/95 Tim Scully pilot survey ------------ I mailed a survey on pilot issues to about 125 people on the airport mailing list on 12/4/95. So far I have received 6 response forms and one letter. I'll hold off detailed statistical analysis until more responses come in. All 6 response forms voted for some form of GPS approach. The one letter was from a former Healdsburg airport commissioner, who suggested solving the budget problem by installing card-lock fuel and not having an airport manager. State funding ------------- Michael Moore talked to Daniel Gargas of the CalTrans Division of Aeronautics to inquire about State funding for Little River. He was told that CalTrans had received the Public Works list of requests: The Public Works list of items for a State Improvement Plan: Priority description year cost ------------------------------------------------------------ 1 develop private hangar site 1996 $300,000 2 AC overlay, all paved areas 1996 $912,000 3 Construct tie-down area 1997 $436,000 4 Install airport lighting system 1997 $356,000 5 New operations building 1997 $115,000 6 Land acquisition for clear zones 1998 $480,000 7 Install AWOS system 1998 $60,000 ------------------- total $2,659,000 Michael was told that none of our requests would be funded. The projects were not the type the State assigns a high priority. He also was told that CalTrans would be happy to work with an official airport committee to craft a grant application which would be more likely to be funded. We probably will not get additional State grant funding (beyond the regular $10,000 per year) for the next 2 year cycle, with the possible exception of matching funds for an Federal grants we obtain. Airport Zoning Changes ---------------------- Charles Peterson had told me that zoning changes were made recently that might satisfy the FAA requirements for Runway Protection Zones. He suggested that I contact Ray Hall in Planning and Building. I talked to Mr. hall, who referred me to Gary Petroni. Gary said that no changes in zoning were made around Little River - the recent changes were all around other airports. He sent me a copy of the County Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The zoning in this plan does not look sufficient to satisfy the Runway Protection Zone requirements of the FAA.
