Association Latest Meeting Minutes Following are the meeting minutes from the latest LRAPA meeting on 11/9/2002. Also see the archive of past meeting minutes. The next meeting is scheduled for 9:00am,
12/6/2002
at the Little River Airport office, November 9, 2002 Meeting Minutes Minutes of the Little River Airport Pilots Association 11/9/2002 We met in the airport office at 9am. Tim Scully, Kathie Sarin, Elly van den Bosch, Jeffrey Osier-Mixon and Dave Thorpe were present We discussed the status of the parcel the county is trying to acquire at the approach end of 29. Ed Powers' escrow closed in October and then he immediately sold the property to Bob Wilson. Mr. Wilson lives on Albion Airport Road under the traffic pattern and says that he likes airplane noise. He wants to trade the land for some of the surplus airport land and says that he will be easier to negotiate with than Ed Powers. He attended the LRAAC meeting on 11/8 and talked with Tom Peters afterwards. There had been no water at the airport since Tuesday, the well pump had problems. And there was no power. We discussed the LRAPA web site Jeffrey is putting together. He wanted to know if we want to buy a domain name such as www.lrapa.com. This would cost $95/yr after the initial setup. We decided to accept his offer to host the site instead. The work-in-progress site is http://www.jefro.net/lrapa. Dave Thorpe brought up the idea of LRAPA buying Jack Reichel's weather station. We agreed that this is worth investigating. Dave will contact Jack about this. Tim Scully reported on an issue that has surfaced in the latest ALP draft. It shows a 34:1 trapezoid for Runway 29. Previous discussions of the GPS approach used a 20:1 trapezoid. A 34:1 would mean cutting quite a few more trees and, as is shown on the latest ALP, would mean displacing the threshold of Runway 29 by 155 feet (due to the road). We learned that if the airport if classified "B1-large" i.e., for aircraft over 12,500 lbs, then the 34:1 slope is required by FAR 77. If we are "utility" or B1-small, i.e., less than 12,500 lbs, then the slope is 20:1. This classification is supposed to reflect the heaviest class of aircraft with at least 200 operations a year. Currently we estimate about 50 annual operations over 12,500 lbs. We discussed the debate over "B1-small" vs "B1-large" and agreed that unless the county will proceed forthwith to cut the additional trees required by B1-large, we would rather go with B1-small for now, changing it in the future if necessary. There will be a public meeting regarding the Airport Layout Plan Update on Thursday November 14 from 6pm to 8pm (doors open at 5:30pm) at the Clubhouse at the Woods 43300 Little River Airport Road. Parking in rear. This meeting will be hosted by the Mendocino County Department of Transportation and the Little River Airport Advisory Committee with a presentation by Shutt Moen, the airport consultants. This will cover an Airport Layout Plan Update, including: - locations for future hangars - GPS approach, trees and automated weather station - State and federal funding, Capital Improvement Plan - the existing Noise Abatement Procedure will be explained - future uses of the airport (little change expected) There will be a follow-up Airport Advisory Committee meeting on Friday December 6 from 9am to 11am at the Clubhouse at the Woods 43300 Little River Airport Road when the public input from the November 14 meeting and subsequent input by mail will be discussed. We'll have an LRAPA meeting on Saturday December 7 at 9am at the airport office. NOTE: if you send me an email about LRAPA affairs, please let me know if I can forward it to the rest of the members. Thanks. If you see any errors or omissions in the minutes, please let me know. If you want to be removed from this mailing list, please let me know. We normally meet the Saturday following the LRAAC meeting. This is usually the 3rd Saturday of the month, but there are occasional exceptions. |
