Please respond with your comments. Thanks, Joel ----------------- Minutes of the Member's Meeting of LITTLE RIVER AIRPORT PILOTS' ASSOCIATION a California nonprofit public benefit corporation *OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD AT COAST FLYERS ON JULY 25, 1998 AT 8 O'CLOCK A.M.* A regular meeting of the Directors and Members was held on June 20, 1998, at eight o'clock A.M. at Coast Flyers meeting room, for the purpose of conducting all proper business of the corporation. The meeting was called by those present at the last meeting. Written notice of this meeting was sent to interested parties. Notice was publicly posted. There were present, the following persons: Dick Ahrens Joel Bornstein Tim Scully Joel Bornstein distributed the minutes of the last meeting. They were approved as written. We then discussed the meeting of The Little River Airport Advisory Committee which was held yesterday. Tim Scully said that he has been in contact with Michael Scannell, the Mendocino County Administrator. He reported that Supervisor Peterson has made a request for an economic development study of the future of the Little River Airport. Tim also learned that there is another company applying to the county for permission to use the airport. This company wishes to ferry tourists from and to Sacramento. We spoke of the usefulness of the instrument approach, considering the weather at Little River. Tim Scully said he hopes the F.A.A. will continue to maintain the LORAN system. He's always had good performance from his LORAN. We then discussed the minutes of previous meetings, as pertain to Patrick Bulmer and the website. Joel said that Patrick is planning on moving to the Sacramento Valley in the near future. (Patrick confirmed later that he will continue to produce the website.) The modified noise abatement poster has been produced by Tim Scully and has been delivered to Les Proctor. The indoor poster is in place. Les is going to make a display case for the outside poster. Tim Scully mentioned that an approach certified GPS receiver is available for about $7-8,000.00, including installation. We spoke of the mechanics of running the Little River Airport Pilots Association. Joel said we need to find people who might be interested is in participating is in the management of the organization. Dick Ahrens suggested a fly-out luncheon. He mentioned the luncheons of the North Coast Historical Aviation Society which are held in Arcata. Also, there is the possibility of Lena's lunch at Schellville. We thought of the Little River Airport Pilots Association hosting a luncheon or a brunch at the Wharf, or a similar location. This idea was supported by all present. We established August 22nd as our first choice, since that's the day that we would have the August meeting. Joel said he would look into the possibilities and report back. (See announcement appended below.) Dick Ahrens said we should put out another newsletter and include the modified noise abatement procedure, as well as announce the luncheon. Tim and Joel discussed the mechanics of producing the minutes of the Little River Airport Advisory Committee. Joel will write the minutes and forward them to Tim. Tim agreed to add the appendices and handle the distribution. There being no further business to come before the meeting, we adjourned at 9:30 o'clock am, on motion duly made and carried. Joel Bornstein, Secretary ------------------------------------------ Appendix: June 22nd: Joel spoke with Tom Wisdom, owner of the Wharf Restaurant and Little River Airport Pilots Association member, this morning, regarding a possible LITTLE RIVER AIRPORT PILOTS ASSOCIATION brunch or luncheon at the Wharf Restaurant on August 22nd. First, the Wharf does not serve brunch. Second, Tom cannot provide us with a private space for the meeting until October. However, he said it would be possible to set up the bar area, which would be separated from the rest of the restaurant, but not from the bar area. There is no longer any smoking is in the bar, as you know. Joel thinks there will not be many people at the bar, at the time that we might be there. Joel got to take a look at the area that Tom suggested, this afternoon. It is a beautiful space, with an unobstructed view of the harbor and the bridge. There are about six tables there, each seating four. There is room for additional seating, should we require it. Tom made it clear that he would like very much to host our get-together. Joel thinks we could have a successful gathering there. June 24th: Joel spoke with Tom again. We confirmed the date: August 22, Saturday, from 11:00am until 1:30pm. We might have our hangar flying session between 11 and 12, then lunch. He told Tom we are hoping for 25-30 people. Tom is quite flexible. The food we'll offer will be chicken, fish of the day or a Shrimp Louie. Special requests, within reason, can be accommodated. We established the price: $10.00/person, all inclusive. If we decide to have a drawing for a few door prizes, it might be held before or after the meal. Several people have encouraged us to have a drawing. Donations might be nice; got any aviation white elephants? I have a new tie that I'll never wear. It has a bunch of little airplanes on it.
