I'll send the minutes to the general mailing list in about a week, including any requested changes. --------------------- Minutes of the Member's Meeting of LITTLE RIVER AIRPORT PILOTS' ASSOCIATION a California nonprofit public benefit corporation *OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE WHARF RESTAURANT ON SAT. AUG 22, 1998 AT 11 O'CLOCK A.M.* A regular meeting of the Directors and Members was held on July 26, 1998, at eight o'clock A.M. at Coast Flyers meeting room, for the purpose of conducting all proper business of the corporation. The meeting was called by those present at the last meeting. Written notice of this meeting was sent to interested parties. Notice was publicly posted. There were present, the following persons: Dick Ahrens Joel Bornstein Dave Brewer Tim Scully Joel Bornstein opened by expressing his fears that The Little River Airport Advisory Committee might recommend limiting the usefulness of the Little River Airport. Tim Scully said he feels that we must be prepared to negotiate for a fair compromise. The others agreed that compromise is necessary. We want to remain sensitive to the needs of the neighbors of the airport. Tim reported that he had contacted Bob Rodriguez of the local recreation district. Bob is investigating recreational resources on and around the Little River Airport. The Firemens' Park is of particular interest to Bob. We are aware of the neighbor's concerns. Bicycles and motorcycles have brought safety concerns into the spotlight. The Northern California Trails Council is lobbying the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors for permission to link some local hiking trails, using the Little River Airport for some connections. Our concept of a future Airport Day with Young Eagles flights was enthusiastically received. Bob requested that a representative of the airport attend the Recreation District meeting on August 18th. Joel Bornstein said he would go to the meeting if Les Proctor was unavailable. Tim annnounced that the Whitesboro Grange will soon be holding its annual dinner to benefit the Albion-Little River Fire Department. The date will be announced shortly. He encourages our participation. Dick Ahrens showed us the flyer that he has produced, announcing the Wharf Luncheon. There will be a modified noise abatement poster on the reverse. Dick has done a fine job of putting it together. He is planning on mailing it on the first or the second of August, to the entire Little River Airport Pilots Association mailing list. Joel requested that we consider funding several raffle prizes to be presented at the luncheon. We agreed to spend $30 for two posters and one license plate frame. Joel will order the items from Sporty's Pilot Shop. We are still soliciting donations from individuals, for the raffle. Tim agreed to give a short talk to try to encourage the guests and members present to join, or become more active, in LRAPA. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as written. Dave Brewer asked that we consider changing the meeting time. He is unhappy with the early Saturday hour. We spoke at some length before agreeing to try holding our meetings on Friday morning at 9:00 am, the week before The Little River Airport Advisory Committee meeting. This will normally be the third Friday of each month. Dick read an item from California Pilot Magazine reporting that a pilot was cleared to takeoff from runway 9 at Oakland. This is the nightime runway for noise abatement. The wind, however, was blowing at 21 Kts., gusting to 29...favoring the use of runway 27. Fortunately, the pilot had the good sense to reject the clearance. The point is that we should all be aware that we have the obligation to refuse an unsafe clearance. We must share this information with pilots less experienced than ourselves. We had a short discussion of IFR procedures, specifically VFR-ON-TOP, for our hangar talk session. There being no further business to come before the meeting, we adjourned at 9:30 o'clock am, on motion duly made and carried. Joel Bornstein, Secretary
