Minutes of the Little River Airport Pilots Association 5/18/2002 We met in the airport office at 9am. Ellie van den Bosch, Merlin Tinker, Dick Ahrens, Tim Scully, Steve Schoolman, Dave Thorpe, David Schiff and one person whose name I missed where present. We discussed the County's rejection of our proposal for a pilot's shop. Since the biggest object was having Dave Thorpe act as shopkeeper, we discussed alternatives. Jeffro had suggested a vending machine in an email. I researched snack vending machines and discovered that there are machines available which will hadle a wide range of item sizes and prices, accepting bills up to $20. But the cost of these machines is about $2500-3000. We made a wild estimate that we might do $100 a week of business, and agreed that at that rate it would take far too long to amortize the cost of the vending machine. Dave Thorpe reported that the soft dring machine makes about $25 per month above the cost of the drinks, and he pays this to the County. He said that the dollar bill acceptor has only jammed once in a year. Ellie proposed that we try setting up a display case which operates on the honor system. We discussed having all of the items priced in even dollar amounts, tax included. I think we agreed on having a cash box with a slot for payments but no ability to make change. Merlin told us about prefab cabinets from Mendo Mill which are inexpensive. Tim will send an email to DOT to find out if this revised proposal could fly. We plan to meet again on Saturday June 15 at 9am in the airport office.
