Minutes of the Little River Airport Pilots Association 6/15/2002 We met in the airport office at 9am. Dick Ahrens, Tim Scully, Steve Schoolman, Dave Thorpe and Jeffrey Osier-Mixon where present. Tim Scully reported that he sent the LRAPA proposal for an "honor system" display case to DOT. They replied that it will be a few weeks before they can respond to the proposal. We discussed doing a mailing to the 54 former members to see if we can encourage more folks to pay their dues and perhaps to solicit email addresses (I only have a few). We discussed Steve Schoolman's proposal for right traffic for 11. Dave Thorpe expressed very strong opposition, stating that he is already receiving several irate phone calls every day as a result of pilots flying a left base entry for 29. A right 45 for 11 would cross the same part of Albion Ridge. In general it is a very good idea to avoid flying over Albion Ridge, we get many noise complaints from there. Tim Scully asked if we should print copies of the noise abatement poster to send to other airports, in the hope that inbound pilots would more closely follow the recommended procedure. The other members felt that this would not be helpful - the posters would probably end up in the trash. Jeffrey Osier-Mixon volunteered to put together a web page for LRAPA and to serve as webmaster. We could post the noise abatement procedure there. Jeffrey also suggested sending a simple sketch of the noise abatement procedure to Airnav. Jeffrey Osier-Mixon noted that the Lions Club may stop the 4th of July fireworks display for lack of funding. Does LRAPA want to support this? Several members spoke in opposition. Tim Scully briefly summarized a latter sent by the AAAE (Amercian Association of Airport Executives) to TSA over AOPA's objections. The letter recommended a range of security measures to the implemented at GA airports. AOPA opposes the AAAE airport classification scheme and some of the more expensive proposed security measures. He sent an email to AOPA reporting on the security arrangements at Little River, in response to a request from them. There was a discussion of security cameras and whether the webcams we propose to install for weather monitoring could also serve a security function. Jeffrey said that webcams are low resolution and we'd have to spend more to buy higher resolution cameras suitable for security monitoring. We discussed the possibility of an Airport Day to try to promote pro-airport sentiment in the community. This could hilight some of the airport acitivities that benefit the community. The Sheriff's Squadron, Angel Flight, Young Eagles, the Reach medivac helicopter and the Coast Guard Hercules were all mentioned. It was suggested that perhaps we should piggyback on the day of the Fireman's BBQ and Flea Market next year. Someone suggested more frequent Young Eagles events. Someone else said that they should remain fairly rare or else they will no longer be magical. Is there any interest in starting a Coast chapter of EAA? Dave Thorpe asked Tim to plot a new outdoor noise abatement poster, the existing one is faded. Dick Ahrens suggested that we make an overlay for the back side of the large wooden sign at the edge of the parking lot. It currently is inscribed "Mendocino County Airport" and should say "Little River Airport". We plan to meet again on Saturday July 20 at 9am in the airport office. We are meeting on the 3rd Saturday of each month. NOTE: if you send me an email about LRAPA affairs, please let me know if I can forward it to the rest of the members. Thanks. If you see any errors or omissions in the minutes, please let me know.
